Yanga Fall to Silver Strikers in CAF Champions League First Leg

Malawi – Tanzanian giants Young Africans (Yanga SC) suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Silver Strikers of Malawi in the first leg of their CAF Champions League clash on Saturday.

Despite dominating possession and creating numerous chances, Yanga failed to convert their opportunities, leaving themselves with plenty to do in the return leg. Forwards Andy Boyeli, Mohamed Doumbia, and Prince Dube were particularly wasteful in front of goal, missing several clear chances that could have changed the outcome of the match.

The first half ended goalless, with Yanga enjoying control of the game but lacking the finishing touch. Silver Strikers, meanwhile, adopted a defensive approach, absorbing pressure and waiting for counter-attacking opportunities.

In the second half, the Malawian side grew more confident and launched a few dangerous attacks. Their persistence paid off when they found the back of the net, scoring the game’s only goal to seal a vital home win.

Yanga will now return to Dar es Salaam with the challenge of overturning the deficit in the second leg at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, where they will need a strong performance to keep their CAF Champions League hopes alive.
