Dar es Salaam – Young Africans head coach Romain Folz is facing mounting pressure following his side’s goalless draw against Mbeya City, a result that has left fans questioning his system and calling for the return of former coaches Miguel Gamondi or Nasreddine Nabi.
Despite the fact that Yanga have not lost a single match under Folz — in both friendlies and competitive fixtures — supporters remain unconvinced by his 4-3-3 tactical setup, which they argue restricts the team’s creativity and relies too heavily on counterattacks.

The frustration has grown in recent weeks, with fans comparing the Frenchman’s approach unfavorably to the success enjoyed under Gamondi and Nabi, who led the club to dominance in domestic competitions over the past four seasons.
The discontent reached a boiling point last Friday after Yanga’s CAF Champions League clash against Angola’s Willette FC, which Yanga won 2-0. Despite the victory, sections of the club’s faithful confronted club president Hersi Saidi, demanding Folz’s removal. Saidi defended his coach but admitted that management would act if performances continue to fall short.
“Folz has our respect for now, but if things get worse, we will take action immediately,” Saidi stated in response to fans’ concerns.
Sunday’s draw with Mbeya City has further intensified the criticism, with many pointing out that the result has left Yanga in second place in the NBC Premier League standings, a position fans feel is below expectations given the club’s ambitions.
As the pressure mounts, Folz, just 36 years old, must now find a way to not only deliver results but also win back the confidence of the supporters, who remain nostalgic for the dominance of past managers.
