Nigerian goalkeeper Matthew Yakubu has continued his outstanding form in Slovakia, producing one of the most impressive goalkeeping runs of the ongoing 2. Liga season for MFK Dukla Banská Bystrica.
Yakubu, who joined the club as a free agent from Lubvona, has been central to the Vojaci’s commanding position at the top of the table, with the team widening its points gap as the league approaches its midway stage.

His performances have been described by local analysts as “title-defining,” with the 24-year-old yet to taste defeat in any league match he has featured in this season.
So far, Yakubu has played 17 league games, recording 14 wins and two draws, with no defeats. He has kept nine clean sheets and conceded only 11 goals. Banská Bystrica’s only loss of the campaign came in the Slovak Cup— a match he did not play in.
Yakubu’s composure, reflexes, and leadership from the back have earned him recognition as one of the standout performers in Slovakia’s second tier, with many observers tipping the club for an imminent return to the Fortuna Liga if their current form continues.
The Kaduna-born shot-stopper, who received a Super Eagles call-up in 2020 for international friendlies, is now being mentioned again among future national team prospects, given the consistency he has displayed this season.
With Banská Bystrica chasing promotion and Yakubu delivering performances of the highest standard, Nigerian football followers are hopeful his form will reopen the door to the senior national team.
