Xabi Alonso Praises Nigerian Victor Boniface’s Stellar Performance in Bayer Leverkusen’s 5-1 Triumph

Bayer Leverkusen’s head coach, Xabi Alonso, showered praise on Nigerian striker Victor Boniface following his standout display in the Bundesliga clash against newly-promoted Darmstadt.

Boniface’s remarkable performance included two goals and an assist, as Leverkusen secured a resounding 5-1 victory at the BayArena over the weekend.

Boniface showcased his brilliance early in the match, opening the scoring with a dazzling solo effort in the 21st minute. Slicing through the Darmstadt defense with finesse, he elegantly chipped the goalkeeper to put Leverkusen ahead. Despite Darmstadt briefly equalizing, Boniface continued to shine, securing his brace in the 61st minute, thanks to an assist from Florian Wirtz. He then transitioned from goal-scorer to provider, setting up Jonas Hofmann for Leverkusen’s fourth goal in the 67th minute.

Coach Xabi Alonso was effusive in his praise for the newly-invited Super Eagles striker, describing him as not just a good striker, but a complete player. Alonso also commended Boniface’s camaraderie with his teammates, highlighting his positive impact both on and off the pitch.

Boniface himself expressed his delight after the impressive win, emphasizing the strong synergy among the team members. “We are very happy about the win. We fit in really well with each other, and if we carry on like this, then we will have lots more joy together,” the Nigerian striker remarked.

Victor Boniface, who arrived at Bayer Leverkusen for approximately £20 million from Union Saint-Gilloise during the summer, has made a swift impact. He notched his first league goals for the club in a 3-0 victory against Borussia Monchengladbach the previous weekend, following it up with a goal and an assist in the German Cup. His Bundesliga debut also featured an assist in Leverkusen’s 3-2 win over RB Leipzig at the BayArena.

In just four appearances across all competitions for his new German club-side, Boniface has already contributed to seven goals, making him a standout star and a key asset for Bayer Leverkusen in the 2023/24 season.
