Joining her in the women’s draw is reigning African champion Hana Goda of Egypt, alongside rising French talent Prithika Pavade.
The combination of seasoned stars and young prodigies sets the stage for thrilling matchups.
In the men’s singles category, Danish sensation Anders Lind returns to Lagos aiming for his first title, backed by strong local fan support.
Lind will face intense competition from Nigeria’s top-ranked player Quadri Aruna, who makes a comeback after missing the 2024 edition due to club duties. Aruna’s return is expected to energise home fans.
Other notable names include Croatia’s Tomislav Pucar, Japan’s Yuta Tanaka, and Tunisia’s Wassim Essid, Africa’s top junior player.
Each brings unique strengths and ambitions to a field brimming with global potential.
Tournament Director Kweku Tandoh emphasized the event’s continued growth and Lagos’ rising profile as a premier table tennis destination.
“We are determined to keep raising the bar in hosting a world-class tournament. Our goal is not just to maintain standards but to introduce fresh ideas that continue to attract top talent to Lagos,” Tandoh said.
He also noted the growing reputation of the tournament, saying the increasing interest from elite players is a testament to the organisers’ commitment to excellence.
In a significant development, the prize pool for the 2025 edition has been increased to $100,000—up from $75,000—further solidifying the tournament’s status on the global calendar.
Players will compete in men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles, and mixed doubles, with winners earning 400 valuable ranking points.
As anticipation builds, fans can expect five days of elite-level table tennis, passionate crowds, and a celebration of the sport in the heart of Africa’s most vibrant city.
