The organisers of the WTT Contender Series have announced a substantial boost in the prize money for the 2025 WTT Contender Lagos tournament, increasing the total purse from $75,000 (₦115 million) to $100,000 (₦153 million).
This marks a 33% increase in financial incentives for participating athletes.

The prestigious tournament is scheduled to hold from July 22 to 26 at the Molade Okoya-Thomas Hall, located within the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
In addition to the enhanced prize pool, participants will also benefit from improved world ranking points. Winners in the singles categories will take home $5,000 (₦7.6 million) along with 400 ranking points.
All players advancing from the main draw will receive both prize money and ranking points.
In the doubles and mixed doubles events, champions will earn $2,500 (₦3.8 million) and 400 ranking points. Players reaching the Round of 16 in these categories will also be entitled to financial rewards and ranking points.
Tournament Director, Kweku Tandoh, highlighted the motivation behind the increased prize pool:
“We are fully aware of the sacrifices players make to participate in WTT events”.
“This over-30 percent increase in prize money is a deliberate effort by WTT management to reward their dedication. At WTT, player welfare remains a top priority, and Lagos is committed to upholding that standard.”
Tandoh also praised the evolution of the Lagos edition, describing it as one of the most vibrant events in the global WTT calendar.

The 2025 WTT Contender Lagos promises to deliver high-level table tennis action, offering both excitement for fans and tangible rewards for players.
