Renowned wrestling coach, Akuh Purity has revealed that three different plans have already been set in motion to ensure that Nigeria consolidates on gains achieved by the country’s delegation at the recent continental championship in Morocco, Sports247 reports.
Although the Nigerian contingent placed a distant second behind Egypt on the final medals table, Purity insists it was a successful outing, considering that the team presented at the event young grapplers who showed huge promises of greater things to come.

While the female wrestlers again proved to be the main assets for Nigeria’s wrestling team, as they garnered nine of ten gold medals won by the contingent, Purity declared emphatically that all areas of development are being looked into be the federation.
The long-standing wrestling tactician pointed out that, aside a long-term plan for the country, processes are also in place to groom more talents from the grassroots as well as involve some that can be exposed across short-term periods.
While taking stock of results from the 40th African Wrestling Championship in Morocco, Purity added, “The federation has long-term plans and short-term plans. We also have a grassroots plan.
“We recently returned from the African championship, where we paraded our young athletes. Out of ten female competitors, we won nine. We could have won the tenth, but one athlete got sick, and she couldn’t participate.”
He concluded with a bold affirmation that Nigeria’s future in the continental and global wrestling scenes is very bright, considering that many young wrestlers are already being brought up through the ranks.
“We have young wrestlers that we have groomed, and we are already grooming more young ones that will take over from this set. This shows that the federation has a long-term plan and a short-term plan as well,” Purity stressed
