World Record Holder Tobi Amusan Wins 5th National Title in 100m Hurdles

Tobi Amusan has once again proven her dominance, clinching her 5th national title in the women’s 100m hurdles at the AFN National Championships in Yabatech.

She stormed to victory with a time of 12.57s, reinforcing her status as the nation’s finest sprint hurdler. Adaobi Tabugbo claimed the silver in 13.03s, while Faith Osamuyi secured the bronze with 13.36s.

Tobi Amusan is set to return to the track later today for the finals of the women’s 100m flat, aiming for a potential double.

By securing her fifth national title (2021-2025), Tobi Amusan joined an elite club of Nigerian women who have ruled their events for at least five straight years.

These rare company of Nigeria’s legendary athletes are: Mary Onyali (1991-1996), Felicia Nkiru Ojiego (1993-1997), Sorochukwu Ihuefo (dominated for at least nine straight victories starting in 1998), Funke Adeoye (nearly a decade in the early 2000s), and Vivian Chukwuemeka (1999 to 2005).

With another national title secured, Amusan’s full focus will shift to working on her readiness ahead of medalling at the World Championships in Tokyo this September.
