The Al-Kholood of Saudi Arabia defender admitted the Eagles did not have a bright start to the original qualifiers, but declared that they want to make up for it by getting another emphatic win – like the 4-0 hammering they gave Benin Republic in their last match.
Ekong stated, “We’ve been under pressure from the start; right from when we began the qualifiers. That’s a reality, but the boys are now learning to cope with the pressure, which has been an exercise for us over the last month.
“It’s not been easy, but we are all happy that we scored many goals against Benin. If we can score four goals in every game, then I’ll say, ‘Yeah, let’s go for it right now.’ We need goals.”
The Eagles’ skipper concluded by reassuring Nigerian fans that all players in the squad are on top of their game and stressed that they are eager to take Gabon to the cleaners, then called for total support to make it happen.
“In spite of the difficult process, I’m proud to say we still have amazing players. Everyone is really working hard because we want to get better.
“We just need the fans to also believe in us now that we already believe in one another. Once we have more support from the media and the fans, we’ll see special things from this cream,” Ekong reassured.
