World Cup Pain Will Drive Them’ Alloy Agu Says Super Eagles Ready to Repay Nigeria at AFCON

Former Super Eagles goalkeeper Alloy Agu believes the disappointment of missing out on the FIFA World Cup will serve as powerful motivation for the national team as they head into the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Speaking ahead of the tournament, Agu said the players are fully aware of the expectations on their shoulders and are determined to repay Nigerians with a strong showing at AFCON.

“The pain of missing the World Cup is still there, and that can be a big motivation. The players want to give something back to the country,” Agu said.

The former goalkeeper explained that the Super Eagles understand what it means to represent Nigeria on the continental stage, especially after recent setbacks that have tested belief and confidence among fans.

“They know Nigerians were disappointed. That awareness alone should push them to give more at AFCON,” he added.

Agu stressed that Nigeria possesses enough quality to compete with any team at the tournament but insisted that talent alone will not be enough.

“The quality is there, no doubt. But it must be used effectively. That is what will decide how far the team goes,” he noted.

He also highlighted the importance of unity and national support, saying the players will need encouragement from Nigerians both at home and in Morocco.

“Support, prayers and belief matter. When the country stands behind the team, it gives the players extra strength,” Agu said.

The former Super Eagles star urged the coaching crew to ensure the squad remains focused and shielded from distractions as the tournament approaches.

“AFCON is tough mentally. The team must stay calm, disciplined and united,” he warned.

Agu believes that channeling disappointment into determination could be the difference between success and failure at AFCON.

“Sometimes setbacks make teams stronger. If the players use that pain the right way, Nigeria can achieve something special,” he said.

He concluded by expressing confidence in the Super Eagles’ ability to respond positively.

“I believe in this team. If they stay focused and hungry, they can make Nigerians proud again in Morocco,” Agu added.
