An uncommon strategy of joint-ownership has been cited as the basic factor that has kept Wonderlight Football Academy of Igando going for three years and still waxing strong.
This was revealed during an exclusive chat Sports247 had with the duo of Ayomide Adebayo and Pelumi Dosunmu, who operate the academy together at Local Government Primary School, Church Bus Stop, Igando-Ikotun Road, Lagos.
Pelumi, who hails from Irepodun local government area in Kwara State, disclosed that the foundation of the academy began as Top Players FC on a street in Isuti axis of Igando.
He added, “I used to play as a goalkeeper and sometimes defensive midfield or central defence. That gave me a lot of interest in football, and I used to gather boys together on the street.
“Many of us started playing together as a team with CAC Oke-Anu at Arije Musa Street in Isuti, until we realised in 2024 that we had grown bigger than a street team and we decided to officially call ourselves Wonderlight Football Academy.”
Pelumi disclosed further that Ayomide joined the team a year later as a co-investor, and they reached an agreement towards forging a strong partnership, which has kept them going strong.
The team soon started training regularly at LA Primary School, but they now go there only on Saturdays and spend more days at a field in Isuti, due to costs of transportation for most of the players.
Ayomide chipped in, “I played as a box-to-box midfielder for Royal Diamond FC of Isuti and I still play Sunday-Sunday football with Young Stars of Akesan.
“I’ve always had a strong passion for training kids and that led me to seek an agreement with my closest friend, Pelumi. That’s how I became a co-owner of Wonderlight Football Academy.”
Together, they have taken the academy to great heights and, after gaining affiliation with Alimosho Football Coaches Council, they both hope to make a bigger technical impact in the coming days.
Their first major outing for the year 2026 will be this Wednesday, when they face White Soccer Temple of Abaronje in the Annual Ramadan Cup at Sosan Field, Igando.
“We are working hard to ensure we win the competition, but our biggest target is to train these boys properly and see that they become big stars in the future,” Dosunmu submitted.
