Women Amateur League begins with harvest of drawn games

The much anticipated Nigeria Women Amateur League (NWAL) kicked off as scheduled on Wednesday in Benin City, Edo state capital with the two matches of day one matchup ending in score draws.

The first match of the day between Naija Ratels FC and Ubakala Queens FC ended one goal apiece for the combatants in Benin City.

Workaholic, Effiom Ekang, put the Umuahia-based side in front in the 18th minute while Kemi Akintan levelled scores for Naija Ratels FC in the 36th minute to end the hotly contested clash a draw for both sides.

The second match of the day aptly dubbed the Kwara derby between landladies, Kwara Ladies FC and Moje Queens lived up to its pre-match billing.

Kwara Ladies scored the match opener through their talisman, Ismail Zainab in the 6th minute, while Moje Queens endured the taunt till the 87th minute when Nafisat Abdulrasheed found the net to equalise for her side.

Efforts by each of the gladiators to score the winner were stoutly cancelled by the opponents to end the game in a draw after 90 minutes.

The NWAL continues today, Thursday February 6, 2020, with top fixtures that are certain to entertain the fans for 90 minutes.

In today’s fixtures, returned club, Omidiran Babes FC of Osogbo will confront Naija Ratels FC in the first match of day 2 matchup.

The Osogbo side are certain to use the clash to announce their intent to return to the domestic football limelight by going all out for the whole three points at the stake in the clash against Naija Ratels FC.

The second match of day 2 will see evenly matched sides, Ubakala Queens and Kwara Ladies fight hard to consolidate their grip on the log with sumptuous victory.

The prize is definitely high and tempting for the two would be toppers of the six-day zonal based competition with promotion tickets to the nation’s women second tier league – pro-league on the table to grab.

The NWAL coordinator, Mr. Joe Amene, is optimistic that soccer fans will be treated to more scintillating football display at the Benin City venue of the zonal championship. He was elated that after so much planning the Nigeria Women Amateur League finally kicked off yesterday.
