Wilfred Ndidi Set for Besiktas Medical Today Ahead of € 9.5m Move From Leicester to Turkish Super Liga

Wilfred Ndidi is set for a medical today ahead of a €9.5m transfer to Besiktas, ending his Leicester City spell. The Super Eagles midfielder joins Solskjaer’s side in Istanbul.

Super Eagles star Wilfred Ndidi is set to undergo a medical on Thursday (today) ahead of a €9.5 million move to Turkish giants Besiktas, bringing an end to his long association with Leicester City.

Besiktas and Leicester reached a full agreement earlier this week, following weeks of negotiations.

The 28-year-old midfielder has agreed to a three-year contract, with an option for a fourth year.

Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg confirmed on Wednesday that Ndidi’s medical was scheduled for today, with final checks on the contract currently underway.

“Leicester are set to receive €9.5m. A mutual agreement between the 28 year old defensive midfielder and the club has been reached. Contracts are now being checked. Medical is scheduled for Thursday,” Plettenberg reported.

Wilfred Ndidi had reportedly attracted interest from several European clubs including Everton, Valencia, and Real Betis. However, he opted to join Besiktas, drawn by the club’s ambitions under new manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Besiktas had earlier struggled to meet Leicester’s valuation, with an initial €7 million offer spread over three years being rejected. However, determined to land the Nigerian international, the Turkish side returned with an improved bid to seal the deal.

Wilfred Ndidi, who was in the final year of his contract at Leicester, opted not to renew following the Foxes’ relegation from the Premier League.

Since arriving at the King Power Stadium in 2017, the Nigerian has made over 240 appearances, establishing himself as one of the league’s top ball-winning midfielders.

Last season, Ndidi made 30 appearances, scored once, and contributed five assists, attracting attention across Europe.

His arrival marks a major coup for Besiktas, who are seeking to rebuild after finishing fourth in the Turkish Super Lig last season.

Solskjaer, appointed in January 2025, is under pressure following a poor start to the season, including a 4-2 loss to Shakhtar Donetsk in the first leg of the Europa League second qualifying round.

Turkish media reports suggest that Solskjaer’s position is already under review, with Nuri Sahin and former coach Sergen Yalcin reportedly being considered as possible replacements.

Regardless, Ndidi’s signing is expected to bolster the squad and provide much-needed steel in midfield.
