Former Super Eagles goalkeeper Emmanuel Babayaro has admitted he is puzzled by Stanley Nwabali’s decision to leave his South African club without having another team lined up.
Nwabali, who established himself as Nigeria’s first-choice goalkeeper for the Nigeria national football team, recently parted ways with his club, a move that has generated debate among football stakeholders.

Speaking on the situation, Babayaro said he finds the decision difficult to understand, especially considering the importance of stability for goalkeepers at the top level.
“I’m still baffled by the decision,” Babayaro said.
According to the former international, players should normally secure their next move before leaving their current club to avoid long periods without competitive football.
He compared Nwabali’s situation to that of Ademola Lookman during a difficult phase earlier in his career, suggesting that careful planning is essential when making career decisions.
Babayaro believes that remaining at his club temporarily while exploring future opportunities could have been a safer option.
“He should have stayed while planning a proper exit,” he explained.
The former goalkeeper also emphasized the importance of having experienced advisors to guide players through critical career decisions.
According to him, professional guidance is crucial to help players navigate complex situations such as transfers and contract negotiations.
“He needs to be surrounded by proper advisors,” Babayaro added.
Despite his concerns, Babayaro expressed hope that Nwabali will soon resolve his club situation and return to regular football.
He stressed that the goalkeeper remains an important figure for Nigeria and should focus on regaining stability as quickly as possible.
Babayaro concluded by urging the Super Eagles shot-stopper to stay focused and ensure his next career move puts him in the best possible position to continue developing at the highest level.
