Anambra’s football boss, Chief Chikelue Iloenyosi, has led a rousing cheer for Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo after his crushing victory in the just-concluded Anambra gubernatorial election – declaring the result a “momentous triumph for Ndi Anambra.”
In a jubilant letter dated 9 November 2025, the charismatic chairman of the Anambra State Football Association (ANSFA) praised the governor’s “effervescent leadership and vision” that, he said, “earned him the people’s mandate.”

“We are elated and thrilled to celebrate your victory,” Iloenyosi wrote. “We look forward to the continuous positive changes and progress you will bring to our homeland for Ndi Anambra.”
Soludo, running on the ticket of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), stormed to a second term with a landslide win – reportedly securing over 422,000 votes, leaving his closest rival trailing by more than 300,000.
And while political watchers pore over the numbers, Anambra’s football fraternity wasted no time making their allegiance clear. Iloenyosi, himself a former international defender nicknamed the General, rallied the state’s sports community behind the returning governor – calling the win “a victory for all lovers of progress and youth empowerment.”
The statement, signed by Iloenyosi on behalf of the ANSFA board, added a touch of sporting flair to the political celebration:
“This is a momentous occasion… best wishes and sporting regards.”
The move is seen as more than ceremonial. Insiders say the football boss hopes Soludo’s new term will usher in a fresh wave of sports development across the state — including long-overdue investment in grassroots football, stadium projects, and youth training programmes.
Observers note that under Iloenyosi’s watch, the ANSFA has become increasingly vocal about linking sports to social progress. His early congratulatory message signals an eagerness to team up with Soludo’s administration in driving that agenda.
With the governor basking in a decisive victory and the state’s football leadership already on the front foot, many believe Anambra could be poised for a winning season — both on the pitch and at the polls.
