An outstanding member in the team of Wiz Clothings at the 2025 Werblack Wines Synergy Cup organised by Island All-Stars Club (IASC), Maduabuchi Onyewuchi has declared that he and his colleagues will not allow negative history repeat itself against them in this year’s competition.
Speaking exclusively with Sports247 after his side defeated Beats Electonics 2-0 in Saturday’s opening match of this year’s competition, Maduabuchi (aka Alu Owerri) recalled how his side won their opening match last year only to see the team that they beat end up winning the cup with victory in the final.

He stressed that, in as much as football is unpredictable, he will personally try his possible best to ensure Wiz Clothings do not suffer the same ugly fate, even as he hailed their performance and victory in Saturday’s opening encounter.
“It was a free and fair game, and both teams did their best. Winning this type of game means a lot of planning, unity and understanding.
“So, we did our best, and we had the upper hand because we had a better game plan. That is what gave us the win,” Maduabuchi pointed out.
He then spoke about the sad memories from last year and assured that a repeat of that setback will not be allowed to hit his team again, hence the warning he gave his colleagues to stay at alert in all their matches.
Maduabuchi stressed: “We remember what happened last season … my team won the first game but, at the end of the day, we did not win the cup.
“We all understand that it sometimes happens like that in football, and the team that we defeated eventually came back to take the cup.
“So, coming into this season, I personally won’t allow that to happen to my team again. I’ve already reminded my teammates about what happened, and we all agreed that we won’t allow history to repeat itself against us.”
