Super Eagles forward Moses Simon says Nigeria are fully prepared to give everything required to defeat Guinea-Bissau in Tuesday’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier and complete the international window with maximum points.
Eric Chelle’s men face the Wild Dogs at the 24 September Stadium in Bissau after opening their Group L campaign with a 2-1 comeback victory over Madagascar in Uyo.
Simon insists the focus has now shifted completely to the second assignment.
“We are well prepared for the game,” the Paris FC winger said ahead of the encounter. “We will give everything to get the victory.”
The fixture comes only days after Simon celebrated one of the biggest personal milestones of his international career, making his 100th senior appearance for Nigeria against Madagascar. The achievement made him only the fifth Nigerian to reach a century of caps.
But the 32-year-old has quickly moved attention away from personal recognition and towards the collective task in Bissau.
Nigeria and Guinea-Bissau both enter Tuesday’s contest with three points. The Wild Dogs began their campaign by defeating Tanzania 2-0 and currently hold top spot in the group on goal difference.
That makes victory particularly valuable for a Super Eagles side determined to avoid allowing another qualification campaign to become complicated.
Simon also knows what it takes to win in Bissau.
During the 2023 AFCON qualifying series, it was his first-half penalty that gave Nigeria a 1-0 victory over Guinea-Bissau at the same venue, just days after the Wild Dogs had shocked the Eagles in Abuja.
Now one of the most experienced figures in Chelle’s squad, Simon has taken on an increasingly important leadership role around a team featuring several younger players.
His longevity has already seen him feature in 23 AFCON finals matches and 22 World Cup qualifiers, while collecting three AFCON medals with Nigeria.
Yet on Tuesday, the numbers that matter most to Simon are much simpler: another victory, another three points and six from six to begin Nigeria’s road to AFCON 2027.
