‘We Must Lead The Way!’ Gusau Charges Region — Nigeria Hosts Key Women’s Football Workshop

President of the Nigeria Football Federation and WAFU Zone B leader Ibrahim Musa Gusau has reaffirmed Nigeria’s responsibility to drive the growth of women’s football in Africa, as the country hosts a major administrative workshop in Abuja.

The three-day programme—organized by WAFU Zone B in collaboration with Confederation of African Football—has brought together delegates from Nigeria, Côte d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Niger, Togo, and Benin Republic.

“We cannot take a back seat,” Gusau said.

According to the NFF president, Nigeria’s status as Africa’s leading women’s football nation comes with added responsibility to support development across the region.

“We must lead,” he implied.

Gusau urged participants to make the most of the workshop by acquiring knowledge and practical tools that can be implemented in their respective countries.

“Take this back home and use it,” he noted.

The sessions are focused on governance, competition structures, marketing, and sustainable growth strategies for women’s football.
“It’s about development,” he added.

For Gusau, the workshop represents more than just discussions—it is a step toward building a stronger and more competitive ecosystem for women’s football across West Africa.

“We must grow together,” he stressed.

The presence of multiple federations highlights a shared commitment to advancing the women’s game, with Nigeria positioning itself as a central driver of that progress.

As the workshop continues, expectations are high that it will translate into tangible improvements across the region.

For Gusau, the message is clear.

Collaborate.

Develop.

Lead.

Because in African football, progress is strongest when it is shared.
