‘We Followed Due Process During Players Registration’, Remo Stars Reacts

Nigeria Professional Football League side (NPFL), Remo Stars Football Club have reacted to the news of the League Management Company(LMC) announcing the disqualification of two of their players Andy Okpe and Isha Alli, Sports247 can confirm.

The LMC announced the ban on both players for the remainder of the NPFL season in a press release yesterday, citing lack of “critical” information and documentation in the registration for the 2021/2022 Nigeria Professional Football League season.

Although the LMC did not disclose the reason that led to the disqualification of the two players but aome football commentators believed that the suspension of both players was in connection to an alleged match-fixing scandal in Ghana in 2021.

Recall in 2021, Inter Allies match against Ashanti Gold in matchday 34 in the Ghana Premier League made headlines around the world. Andy and Alli were part of Inter Allies’ squad that lost 7-0 to Ashanti Gold in a controversial manner which included two questionable own goals.

Both players did not appear before the Disciplinary Committee and were also not charged.

In a statement released on Remo Stars’ official Facebook page, the Sky Blue Stars insisted that all necessary procedures were followed during the registration of both players:

“Following the League Management Company’s sanction on our players Isah Ali and Andy Okpe, Remo Stars would like to affirm that all due protocols were followed in the registrations of both players.

We are currently working to provide the LMC with all necessary documents to demonstrate that we maintained due process in the completion of their registration.

We are cooperating fully with all relevant authorities in order to ensure the current situation may be cleared as quickly as possible, and we are positive they will return to the league as soon as possible.”
