“We Don’t Want to Go Back to 5th Again”: Remo Stars Coach Reflects on Gritty Victory and Eyes NPFL Summit

Remo Stars managed to secure a 1-0 victory over Bayelsa United in the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL). This win propelled them to the top of the league table, marking a significant turnaround for the team, Sports247 reports.

The match, held in Ikene, was not an easy feat for Remo Stars. Coach Daniel Ogumodede reflected on the challenging first half, “The first half was very difficult for us. We have about six starters that are completely new into the system due to accumulation of cautions, the break, injury. So we suffered a lot in the first half.”

However, the team’s resilience shone through in the second half. Ogumodede shared his half-time pep talk, “I told the boys, we are a consequence of what we are on the table and this position, fifth position, this is not our position. We don’t deserve to be there. So if you want to show you don’t deserve to be there, you need to show the whole world.”

The second half saw a couple of strategic substitutions, including the goalscorer, Adam, and Aniekeme Okon. These changes underscored the depth of quality in the squad. “Sure the score depth is incredible, for me as a coach I’m happy to have these guys. As a starter or as a substitute, I know they are always dangerous,” Ogumodede said.

The coach also highlighted the return of Isaac after over six months of injury, “I’m not expecting even 60% from him, but don’t forget these are the weapons we are going to use at the end of the season, so I need to start preparing them.”

Looking ahead, Remo Stars’ next game is against Sporting Lagos. Ogumodede expressed the team’s determination to maintain their top position, “We know how important every game is for us. The last time we found ourselves in the 5th position, and believe me, we don’t want to go back there again. If we lose in Sporting Lagos again we might be back in fifth or sixth and we don’t want to be there, we want to be on top of the table.”

This victory marks a significant milestone for Remo Stars, and with their unwavering determination and strategic gameplay, they are set to continue their ascent in the NPFL. Fans and football enthusiasts alike will be eagerly watching their progress in the upcoming matches.
