Ex-international defender and former chairman of Lagos State Football Association (LSFA), Engineer Waheed Akanni, has commended the emergence of a new health insurance scheme that will provide succour for many retired players who cannot afford hospital bills.
Sports247 reports that Akanni, who brokered the agreement in his position as convener of Lagos Legends Club (LLC), gave particular commendation to the chairman of Lagos Lottery Board (LLB), Mr. Bashir Are, for facilitating the health insurance cover for over 100 former footballers.
He added that the beneficiaries, who are all members of the LLC, will find the medical insurance package very useful and a big relief, as many of them often find it difficult to pay bills in hospitals, which they need to visit as their health levels dwindle with every single day that they get older.
Akanni, who also disclosed that the HMO will cover over 100 players, added, “The chairman of Lagos Lottery Board, Bashir Are, has to be commended for giving succour to most of our ex- internationals, who are finding it difficult to meet up with hospital bills.
“You can see from the faces of most of our members present at the flag-off of the HMO. They were so happy that they will not be bothered by where the next cash to pay for medical conditions will come from. It was a welcome relief for our LLC members.”
