Wafu Cup: Kanu nets 9th goal of the tournament as Falcons maintain perfect record

The Nigeria women’s team defeated Mali with two second half goals in Tuesday’s final Group B encounter at the ongoing Wafu Women’s Cup in Ivory Coast to set up a second successive semi-final appearance.

Goals from Rivers Angels striker Rafiat Sule and Southeastern University star Uchenna Kanu gave the Super Falcons a hard-fought 2-0 victory.

The first-half was goalless, with Les Aiglonnes reduced to 10 players when Fatoumata Diarra was sent off on the brink of half time.

The Super Falcons made their numerical advantage count after the break as Sule scored the opener in the 67th minute and a late goal by Kanu which was her ninth of the tournament sealed a third successive win for the Super Falcons.

Thomas Dennerby’s side will face Group A winners, Black Queens of Ghana in the semi-final on Thursday, while Group B runners-up Mali will take on hosts, Ivory Coast.

Nigeria are hoping to win the competition for the first time after finishing third in the last edition.
