WAFU B U-17: Golden Eaglets Set Up Semi-Final Clash with Ghana After Burkina Faso Stalemate

Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets have sealed a semi-final showdown with Ghana at the 2025 WAFU Zone B U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualifying Tournament following a goalless draw with Burkina Faso on Saturday.

The result means both Nigeria and Burkina Faso advanced to the last four, but the Eaglets topped Group B on goal difference after their earlier win over Benin Republic.

Burkina Faso finished second and will face Group A winners Ivory Coast in the other semi-final.

The Black Starlets, who secured their qualification with a 3-1 victory against Niger on Friday, had been awaiting the outcome of the Group B decider to confirm their semi-final opponents.

With the draw settled, Ghana now prepares for a highly anticipated clash against their West African rivals, Nigeria.

Saturday’s encounter between the Eaglets and Burkina Faso lived up to expectations, producing an intense battle with both sides creating chances but unable to find the breakthrough.

The stalemate ensured Nigeria avoided a tougher semi-final test against Ivory Coast, setting up a “Jollof Derby” with Ghana.

Ghana coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum and his players have already switched focus to tactical and recovery sessions ahead of Tuesday’s semi-final fixture.

The Starlets, four-time U-17 world champions, are aiming to book their ticket to the continental finals with victory over Nigeria.

The semi-final stage promises fireworks, as both Ghana and Nigeria renew their age-long rivalry with a place at the U-17 AFCON finals at stake
