President of the Confederation of African Football, Patrice Motsepe, has dismissed reports suggesting that the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) will be postponed following rumours that Morocco has withdrawn as host nation.

Motsepe clarified that discussions are still ongoing and assured stakeholders that there is no decision to disrupt the already scheduled dates for the tournament.
“There is no truth to claims that the 2026 WAFCON has been postponed,” Motsepe said. “Conversations are ongoing, and our priority is to ensure that the competition holds as planned.”
He acknowledged that some countries have expressed interest in hosting the tournament, but noted that such interest is conditional on shifting the competition dates—an option CAF is not considering.
“Some potential hosts have indicated interest, but only if the dates are moved,” he explained. “That is not possible at this stage because WAFCON will also serve as qualifiers for the FIFA Women’s World Cup.”
Motsepe emphasized that maintaining the tournament schedule is crucial, given its importance in determining Africa’s representatives at the global showpiece.
“We must protect the integrity of the calendar,” he added. “WAFCON is not just a continental competition; it is also a pathway to the Women’s World Cup.”
CAF’s reassurance is expected to calm concerns among participating nations, federations, and players as preparations continue for the 2026 WAFCON.
