WAFCON 2024: Robo Queens’ Coach Emmanuel Osahon Identifies Three Weak Areas in Super Falcons

FC Robo Queens of Lagos founder and technical manager, Emmanuel Osahon, has identified three areas of weakness in Nigeria’s female national team, Super Falcons, which he advised must be worked on before their next match at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Sports247 reports that Osahon admitted it was a thing of delight seeing the Falcons win their first match 3-0 against Tunisia on Sunday, but he also pointed at three lapses in the team that must be quickly corrected.

Heading into their second group match, which will be versus Botswana on Thursday, the soft-spoken club owner and gaffer cited a shaky midfield, lack of cohesion and poor teamwork seen in the Falcons’ squad on Sunday.

Osahon, who has produced a number of Falcons’ stars, including current captain, Rasheedat Ajibade and her predecessor, Asisat Oshoala, declared: “All we need to do is just to fortify the midfield.

“There were some loopholes in that midfield on Sunday, but it was a good beginning for the team. At least we won the match.”

He went on to pick positives from the huge win that was achieved in Casablanca, Morocco, especially in curtailing the Tunisians’ attack, but stressed the need for an improved show on Thursday.

Osahon expatiated, “We controlled the first half and much of the second half. So, they hardly harassed our keeper. Although they nearly scored towards the end of the game, we had a clean sheet.

“So, it was a good beginning, and we still have many games ahead. Before then, we need cohesion, better teamwork, and they need to play together.”

He concluded by conceding that the task of blending players into a united squad is never easy in the national team, because they are invited from various clubs in different areas of the world, but submitted with an optimistic view that Coach Justin Madugu’s side will improve along the way.

“Because they are from various clubs, it’s not easy to blend quickly. So, it’s going to be like that at the beginning, but as they progress, they will gel. Let’s just give them time,” Osahon advised
