Pachuca Femenil of Mexico striker, Chinwendu Ihezuo, has described her last-gasp goal for Nigeria’s Super Falcons against Botswana on Thursday at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco as God’s reward for all the hard work she puts into her preparation for matches.
Sports247 reports that the former Pelican Stars of Calabar and Delta Queens of Asaba sensation, who had previously played for clubs in Kazakhstan and China, gave Nigeria a slim 1-0 win in the last minute of added time against the surprisingly stubborn Mares.
It was Ihezuo’s second goal in six caps with the Falcons and was good enough to give Nigeria a second straight win at the 2024 WAFCON, following which the 28-year-old forward gave thanks to God for making it possible.
Ihezuo, who was born and bred in the Ajegunle area of Lagos, eulogised: “All thanks to God. I’m so happy and excited about this victory. I give thanks to God for everything.”
She went on to acknowledge the efforts of her teammates, as they all battled tooth and nail to break down Botswana’s strong defence line that was stoutly marshalled by their in-form goalkeeper.
“I’m so happy because we have been working towards it, but it wasn’t easy. In the end, God did it. He rewarded all of my efforts and hard work. We all worked together as a team, and God completed it for us,” Ihezuo philosophised
