WAFCON 2024: Justin Madugu Eyes Spot In Final, Expects Super Falcons To Get Better

Nigeria’s female national team, Super Falcons’ coach, Justin Madugu has declared that he expects his side to do better in all their subsequent matches at this year’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco and go all the way to the final.

Sports247 reports that many Nigerian football fans and analysts are still critical of the Falcons’ shaky display during Sunday’s 3-0 spanking of Tunisia in their first match at WAFCON 2024, but Madugu assured that they will get better with each game.

Madugu also admitted that his players were not at their best during Sunday’s opening group fixture in Casablanca, Morocco, and quickly added that they will not get carried away by the fact that they still won the game by a wide margin.

He pointed out, “We are not flattered by the scoreline. We know what we set out to do. We watched the game, and we noticed areas where we know that we need to improve.

“It’s still work in progress, and that’s only our first match. Naturally, before your first game, a lot of factors come in, and you don’t expect your team to be at their best.”

He then cast a look ahead at their second group match and, as they prepare to battle Botswana on Thursday, Madugu promised that his team will get better with each passing game.

“Certainly, after this first game, we still have more games to play. The expectation is that we must get better with every game.

“We hope to play up to the final and win the last game of this tournament,” concluded Madugu, who is aspiring to be the coach that would help Nigeria clinch a record extending 10th WAFCON title.
