WAFCON 2024: Jennifer Echegini’s Verdict For Super Falcons – Beating South Africa Depends On Our Mentality

Paris Saint-Germaine of France female team midfielder, Jennifer Echegini has issued a stern verdict about Nigeria’s semi-final clash with South Africa at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, saying victory for the Super Falcons will depend on the mentality with which they enter the game.

Sports247 gathered that the much-expected match at Stade Larbi Zaouli in Casablanca, Morocco, is billed to begin at 5pm Nigeria time, and none of the two sides is considered favourite or outsider in the encounter.

Banyana Banyana of South Africa won the last WAFCON in the same country where this year’s edition is taking place, and even beat Nigeria in the group stage back then, but they must now do it for the third straight time in order to reach this weekend’s final.

With the odds dangling so ominously between both countries, Echegini, who was born in the Netherlands, grew up in England and attended university in USA, wants all Nigerians to rally round the Falcons and cheer them to victory.

The 24-year-old former Juventus of Italy battler stated, “Thank you for your support. We’ll continue to make you guys proud.

“All we have to do is believe in ourselves and make use of our chances. We must be on top all the time and use all our opportunities.”

The dreadlocks-wearing midfield enforcer added to her verdict that the Falcons will also need to maintain full concentration, patience and professionalism in order to carry the day.

“It all comes down to techniques, because we are all professionals here. So, a lot depends on our mentality.

“We also have to watch how we put our talent into each game. We need to be more patient, believe in ourselves and go all out to get what we want,” Echegini buttressed succinctly.
