Super Falcons’ coach, Justin Madugu has added a socio-political angle to celebrations trailing his team’s recent conquest of this year’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
While many fans are considering effects of the victory on the growth of female football in Nigeria and the extra encouragement it gives talented players to aspire for greatness, Madugu says unity of the nation has also been further cemented.
Speaking against the backdrop of excitement that spread across the country when the Falcons defeated Moroco 3-2 in the final and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s rewards for the team, Madugu pointrd out that the bigger joy was how they made Nigerians happy.
He added, “We are glad that we made Nigerians happy and proud. Through this competition, Nigerians have also become very united.
“They have shown concern and care for one another. For the period of the competition, many Nigerians buried a lot of their differences.”
Madugu went on to shower accolades on Nigerian football fans for staying behind the Falcons at home and abroad, as the team stormed to a tenth continental title tagged ‘Mission X.’
“Nigeria came together as one in supporting the Falcons to make sure we did well.
“That’s something we must appreciate from our country’s men and women. So, we are happy that we have made them happy,” Madugu pointed out.
