WAFCON 2024 FALL-OUT: Rasheedat Ajibade Declares – ‘We Want To Keep Inspiring Young Athletes’

Super Falcons’ captain, Rasheedat Ajibade has reiterated that winning the recent Women’s Africa Cup of Nations will help the new continental champions in the task of inspiring young talents to also aspire for greatness.

Sports247 reports that the former Atletico Madrid Femenino of Spain attacker is looking beyond the immediate positive effects of their WAFCON 2024 success, as she believes it will also impart huge ambitions on Nigeria’s future sports stars.

Ajibade, who was voted most valuable player of the competition in Morocco, added that the team’s success should also go a long way in confirming that Nigeria has many talents who can bring global honour to the country.

The FC Robo Queens of Lagos product stated, “We have the potential, we have the team, and we have the talent in this country to make a difference in the world.

“We just don’t want to be participants alone anymore in global football … the World Cup and Olympics. We want to start making a difference. We want to start making global marks.”

She admitted that it will not be an easy task to start reigning on the world stage, but added that all the present set of Falcons players are hugely determined to step up and aim for greater height.

Ajibade projected, “We understand the destination, and we need to get to that point. This is what this trophy is for us. This is what it means for us.

“Of course, we want to keep showing dominance at home and in Africa. We want to keep dominating, but we need to take it beyond this shore and move it up to the next level.”

She concluded by stressing that the next step for the Falcons is to make a strong impact on the global stage, which would help them serve as a stronger source of inspiration for other sports people in Nigeria and Africa as a whole.

Ajibade affirmed: “We have to let the world understand what we have. We want them to keep saying what we can do.

“We want people to keep telling our stories to the world for many years to come. We want to keep inspiring young athletes out there and across the continent.”
