Former Super Falcons’ attacker, Stella Mbachu has joined a cross-section of Nigerians in showering accolades on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the hefty rewards he poured on players of the current squad, and posited that it would encourage others to do better.
Sports247 reports that President Tinubu gave each player $100,000 plus a three-bedroom flat and Order Of the Niger (OON) national award for winning this year’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations; with the team’s officials also getting $50,000 each.

While reacting to the development, the 47-year-old Mbachu, who played all her career in the domestic league with Rivers Angels of Port Harcourt, heaped applause on Tinubu for what she referred to as an unprecedented and handsome gesture.
Mbachu declared, “I just want to thank the president for his handsome gesture towards the Super Falcons. In our days, we never received something like this.
“Tinubu has changed the narrative. He has changed the movement by putting together this monetary aspect, which is better.”
The ex-international forward, who featured at four editions of the FIFA Women’s World Cup (1999, 2003, 2007, and 2011) before retiring, added that the largesse will encourage the players to do more in future and for others to aspire for similar rewards.
“This is a way of treating them well, and it will make others wake up. They will all know that, once you go out and perform very well, you will come back home and get something that will improve your life.
“This is so good, and I’m happy about it. I thank the president for this kind of thing,” reiterated Mbachu, who was born in Mgbidi, Imo State.
