WAFCON 2022: Dr. Tandor Lauds Super Falcons Victory, Calls Out On Some Players After The Match

The former Director-General of Lagos State Sports Commission, Dr. Kweku Tandor congratulated Nigeria’s Super Falcons for qualifying for the quarter-finals stage of the ongoing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday night.

Super Falcons thrashed their Burundi counterparts 4-0 in their last Group C match yesterday night, thanks to three first-half goals from Rasheedat Ajibade, Peace Efih, Uchenna Kanu, and another one from Uchenna Kanu in the second half to book their spot in the last eight round of the biennial football showpiece.

While speaking on the Falcons’ victory after the match, Dr. Tandor commended the team for their better performance in the match, commending the team’s selection and calling for some players to be axed from the starting lineup.

He also urged the team to go for a win in their quarter-final clash against the second-best team in Africa at the moment.

“Congratulations to the Super Falcons for the win today. Again a better performance than the last match and also the team selection is getting better. It’s getting clearer that some players should not come back into the starting lineup. Let’s look forward to a good win against Cameroun,” he said.

Having lost in their opening match of the tournament against Banyana Banyana of South Africa, Nigeria finished second in Group C, and will face the second-best team in the continent, The Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon for a place in the semi-finals of the tournament and to secure an automatic ticket to next year’s Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
