Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) has explained the factors that led to the appointment of a Japanese tactician, Ryan Masajedi, as technical adviser to the country’s national teams, with an indication that he previously handled the squads of Japan and Bangladesh, Sports247 reports.
The explanation came ahead of the new coach’s unveiling ceremony on Tuesday in Abuja, which the NVBF stated marks the beginning of a new chapter for Nigerian volleyball, as the federation seeks to raise the sport’s profile and achieve greater success on the continental and global stages.
A statement by the NVBF’s media committee noted, “The appointment marks a significant step in the federation’s efforts to strengthen the technical development of volleyball in Nigeria and enhance the competitiveness of the country’s national teams at continental and international levels.
“Masajedi is expected to introduce the Japanese coaching philosophy, renowned for its technical discipline, tactical innovation and structured player development, while leveraging his international experience to improve the performance of Nigeria’s teams.
“His appointment underscores its commitment to building a solid technical foundation for sustained success and preparing the national teams for major international competitions, including the forthcoming African Nations Cup. It’s a major milestone in the Federation’s drive to strengthen volleyball in Nigeria.”
This development comes some weeks after the NVBF announced sweeping chnages to its national coaching setup – across its senior, age-grade and beach volleyball teams – in both male and female categories, with the move cited as a step to bolster technical development of the squads ahead of major ccompetitions.
NVBF’s media and publicity committee chairman, Godspower Odedede said the federation believes the new coaches will leverage their extensive experience and professionalism to drive the national teams towards excellence as well as build a culture of achievement to enhance Nigeria’s standing in volleyball.
