Nigerian para-badminton sensation, Eniola Bolaji, faced an unexpected hurdle recently when she was denied a visa to participate in the Dubai Para Badminton International. Despite this setback, the 19-year-old world number two remains undeterred, continuing her training in Spain and setting her sights on the upcoming British & Irish Para Badminton International in July.
Francis Orbih, President of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN), confirmed the visa denial, expressing disappointment over Bolaji’s missed opportunity to defend her title in Dubai.

However, he emphasized her resilience and unwavering commitment to the sport, highlighting her ongoing preparations for future competitions.
Bolaji’s journey in para-badminton has been nothing short of remarkable. Since making history in 2021 as the first African to win gold at the Spanish Para Badminton International Championship, she has amassed an impressive collection of accolades.
Her achievements include a bronze medal at the Paris 2024 Paralympics—the first African to medal in para-badminton at either the Olympics or Paralympics—and multiple gold medals from international tournaments in Egypt and Spain.
Orbih praised Bolaji’s dedication and the inspiration she provides to aspiring athletes across Africa.
“Eniola resilience in the face of challenges exemplifies the spirit of Nigerian sportsmanship,” he stated. “Her continued success on the international stage brings immense pride to our nation.”
Looking ahead, Bolaji is poised to make a strong comeback at the British & Irish Para Badminton International, where she aims to add another title to her growing list of accomplishments.
