The hosts made a bright start and took the lead in the 15th minute when Abdallah’s deflected pass still found Vincent, who showed great composure to chip the ball beautifully into the net.
Rangers responded positively and restored parity in the 28th minute, making it 1–1 and setting the tone for a fiercely contested first half.
The turning point arrived shortly before the break. In the 37th minute, Saka was fouled, and as Vincent prepared to take the resulting free kick, a Rangers defender handled the ball in the box.
The referee had no hesitation in pointing to the spot, and two minutes later, Vincent calmly converted the penalty to restore Plateau United’s lead at 2–1.
Rangers pushed for an equaliser in the second half, but Plateau United remained disciplined. Tactical adjustments followed in the 71st minute, with Chinemerem and Yusuf introduced to shore up the side and manage the game effectively until the final whistle.
Speaking after the match, Rangers International coach Ekenedilichukwu Ekeh struck a composed tone, acknowledging the result while looking ahead.
“Football is a game of win, draw, or lose. We will work on our next game,” he said, declining to comment on officiating decisions.
