Chippa United head coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi has described the departure of Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali as a major setback for the club, while clarifying that the decision was beyond his control.
Speaking after Nwabali’s contract termination, Vilakazi explained that the move was the outcome of discussions between the player and the club’s hierarchy, not a technical decision.
“Stanley’s exit is a blow for us, no doubt,” Vilakazi said. “But I want to make it clear that I was not involved in that decision. It was a matter discussed between the player and the chairman.”
The Chippa United coach praised Nwabali’s contribution during his time at the club, noting that losing such an experienced goalkeeper is significant, especially as the team battles to secure its status.
“He gave his best for the club, and his presence will be missed,” he added. “As a coach, my responsibility now is to focus on the players available and continue working hard with them.”
Vilakazi stressed that despite the setback, Chippa United will remain focused on their objectives for the season.
“We move on as a team,” he said. “The focus is on helping the club get through this difficult period and ensuring we fight until the end.”
