Victor Boniface Admits He Has Been “Unlucky” With National Team Career

Nigerian forward Victor Boniface has opened up about the challenges he has faced in his national team journey, admitting that he considers himself “unlucky” when it comes to his career with the Super Eagles.

Boniface, who has impressed at club level with consistent performances, said that despite doing well whenever he gets the chance to represent Nigeria, the expectations placed upon him often overshadow the efforts he puts in on the pitch.

Speaking candidly, Boniface explained that many fans who do not watch full games tend to judge him solely on the basis of goal statistics, overlooking his contributions in other areas such as link-up play, pressing, and creativity.

He insisted that while goals are important, forward players can still have strong performances without necessarily finding the back of the net. He highlighted that his role in the national team sometimes requires sacrifices that are not always visible to the average viewer.

The striker expressed frustration at how quickly some sections of the fan base conclude that he is “unfulfilled” because he has not scored as many goals for Nigeria as expected.

He argued that football is a collective sport, and a player’s worth should not be measured solely by goals. Boniface, however, made it clear that he continues to work hard and is optimistic that goals will eventually come when everything aligns.

Despite his frustrations, Boniface described playing for the Super Eagles as the fulfillment of a childhood dream. He recalled growing up watching Nigeria’s football icons and dreaming of wearing the green-white-green jersey himself.

The forward said that he remains grateful for every opportunity he gets to represent his country and takes immense pride in doing so.

He explained that he is determined to keep pushing, improving and contributing to the team’s success. Boniface assured fans that he remains committed to the national team and that his desire to score goals for Nigeria is stronger than ever. “It has always been my dream to play for Nigeria,” he said, “and I am happy that I have achieved that. The goals will come.”
