Veteran Journalist Femi Fasetire Marks Birthday With Educative Competitions At Distinction Gate College

Veteran sports writer, editor, broadcaster and youth football promoter, Sam O’Femi Fasetire on Thursday marked his birthday with two educative competitions among junior students at Distinction Gate College, Igando-Ikotun Road, Lagos.

Sports247 gathered that the two competitions, which were for students in Junior Secondary (JS) classes 1 and 2, were staged under the theme ‘TEAM: Together Everyone Achieves More,’ as a step towards promoting better bonding among the classmates in the ever-expanding institution.

The first competition, which was staged in two phases for J1A (Diamond) and J1B (Gold) separately, saw Adebayo Chandelle lead her seven-member team to victory in the combined final against the opposing squad led by Desmonds Delight.

All the eight groups presented different theses on the topic ‘How to make Distinction Gate College better,’ but the package that carried the day was forwarded by JS1 Diamond’s Team A, which was led by Chandelle, supported by Ogboide Blyss, Faturoti Esther, Adekola Stephen, Idowu Francis, Adeniran Anu and Appolos Samuel.

In the Junior Secondary Two (JS2) category, Ozimede Luciana led a quartet that also had David Darasimi, Desmond David and Chukwunyere Vincent to victory with a creative dialogue under the topic ‘Discipline is the foundation of social development.’

Their presentation was so stunning that the school’s owner, Mr Devi Gilbert Sisso, quickly dolled out a cash gift to the winning quartet, which was also informed that they will be included to give the same catchy presentation during the institution’s graduation day activities on July 25th.

The celebrant, Femi Fasetire (aka Mr Fash), also gave cash to an extra group that was named ‘Special 5’ – comprising Olaniyi Abeebat, Enwerem Deborah, Owolabi Michelle, Fashogbon Erinoluwa and Innocent Princess – for their dedication, obedience and outstanding performances during his class.

The erudite graduate of English Studies from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife in Osun Syate and holder of a certificate in Advanced Writing Skills at Pan-African University, Ibeju Lekki, Lagos thanked everyone who was part of Thursday’s double contests.

Fasetire added: “I also want to use this opportunity to thank some of my former classmates, especially Tayo Okusanya and Tope Orekan, for always being there for me; as well a fellow-church worker, Brother David Olomo, who is now based in the USA but keeps supporting me whenever I call on him.

“I also say thanks to a childhood pal, Yemi Mapaderun, who has been very supportive at short notice, as well as some of my former grassroots players for standing by me. I pray that God will bless them all and reward them for their acts of generosity. Next year will surely be better than this.”
