Anorthosis Famagusta of Cyprus goalkeeper, Francis Odinaka Uzoho is staying hopeful for a positive outcome to an appeal lodged by his club against a match suspension handed him by the country’s football body.
Sports247.ng gathered that, in response to the suspension and fine handed Uzoho by Cyprus’ FA at the start of the week, plus a points deduction for his club, Anorthosis have lodged an immediate appeal.
Uzoho, who is on loan from Deportivo La Coruna of Spain, following his lost spot at fellow-second division side, Elche, will now keep his fingers crossed, in anticipation of a favourable outcome.
CFA punished Anorthosis after a protest by the club Uzoho had his debut against on February 2, Apollon Limassol, who alleged that he played with a counterfeit health certificate.
Anorthosis won the game 1-0, but the result was overturned in favour of Apollon and Uzoho’s club had six points deducted for breaking the rules.
The deduction of nine points saw Anorthosis drop into the bottom half of the 12-team league table, with a single game now left in the regular season, which Uzoho is bound to miss.
The Super Eagles keeper was also handed a match suspension and a fine of €1,000 and has already sat out two matches since his disputed debut.
However, Uzoho’s club have now disclosed that they will request the CFA to postpone its final regular league game while an appeal is lodged.
