In the wake of Nigeria’s continued struggles on the continental and global stage, most notably the Super Eagles’ failure to qualify for the FIFA World Cup since 2022 — Dr. Gabriel Ken Gaddafi, Senior Lecturer at ACLEDA University of Business and CEO of KG Sports Academy and Rising Stars International Sports Academy, has outlined a comprehensive seven-point blueprint designed to restore Nigerian football to international relevance.

The respected sports development expert stated that Nigeria’s football decline is rooted in deep-seated structural issues that must be urgently addressed through professionalism, transparency, and long-term strategic planning.
He highlighted the following key reforms:
1. Administration and Governance Reform
Dr. Gaddafi stressed that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) must undergo a full structural overhaul to rebuild credibility and operational efficiency. He recommended an independent audit of its finances, the introduction of a digital payment dashboard to end recurring payment disputes, and a leadership reshuffle that prioritizes integrity and technical expertise. He also proposed the creation of a National Team Operations Directorate and the adoption of global best practices, citing Morocco as a model.
2. Revitalizing Grassroots and Youth Development
To rebuild Nigeria’s talent pipeline, he called for a truly structured national youth system starting from the U-15 level. His recommendations include modern football academies, improved training infrastructure, enhanced coaching education, and a stronger link between football and formal education. He also emphasized the need for transparent and reliable age verification to protect Nigeria’s credibility in youth competitions.
3. Strengthening the Domestic League (NPFL)
Dr. Gaddafi noted that a strong Nigeria Premier Football League is essential to long-term national team success. He urged the enforcement of club licensing requirements, improved officiating standards, enhanced media visibility, and established pathways for top-performing home-based players to transition smoothly into the Super Eagles.
4. Modernizing the National Team
He advocated for the appointment of a world-class, tactically astute coach capable of implementing a modern football philosophy rooted in discipline and merit. Team selections, he stressed, must be based purely on performance, free from political or commercial influence.
5. Integrating Sports Science
Dr. Gaddafi emphasized the need to fully incorporate sports science into national team setups — including performance analysis, conditioning, injury prevention, and sports psychology — to elevate players’ physical and mental readiness.
6. Defining a Tactical Identity
He called for a unified playing philosophy across all national teams, from the U-15s to the Super Eagles, to ensure continuity, identity, and predictable development pathways.
7. Collaboration for Sustainable Reform
Gaddafi concluded by describing these reforms as a “national emergency,” stressing that success will require coordinated efforts by the NFF, government agencies, private stakeholders, and the wider football community.
