UNITY CUP 2025: Ghana’s Coach Otto Addo Plans To Unleash Young Players Against Super Eagles

Black Stars of Ghana coach, Otto Addo has served a strong hint that he could line out relatively unknown and young yet talented players in Wednesday’s friendly match against the Super Eagles of Nigeria at the 2025 Unity Cup in London, England.

Sports247 reports that, as both sides head into the game at Brentford FC’s GTech Community Stadium, Addo is happy with the opportunity to watch emerging talents grow in his squad and he now wants to see what they are capable of doing in Ghana’s national colours.

While noting that the four-nation competition, which starts on Tuesday with a clash between Jamaica and Trinidad, would accord all competing teams many socio-cultural values and useful interactions, Addo reasoned that it will also be a good preparation point ahead of the restart of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in September.

Addo added, “It’s a big festival, and it’s very nice to be here. Surely, we are using this opportunity to test our players and to see them on a very, very high level.

“We are happy that we are getting this opportunity and it’s surely a good, good test for our upcoming World Cup qualification games in September. It’s a good test for our confidence ahead of the upcoming games.”

The Black Stars’ gaffer concluded by expressing optimism that he will be able to get a fresh insight into the quality of some new players that would be available to him for the World Cup qualifiers and beyond.

He then enthused that the presence of many Ghanaians in London would make them feel at home against Nigeria on Wednesday.

“We really need to know answers to many questions about all our players. I’m happy to give some new, young ones possibilities to show what they can do.

“Surely, after this tournament, some questions will be answered. Fortunately for us, we have a big community in England … and that’s very, very important for us. It will also help the fans to see and feel the players. So, it’s a very good opportunity to participate in this tournament,” Addo affirmed.
