An assistant coach in the Super Eagles technical crew, Fidelis Ilechukwu, has cited what he referred to as ‘incredible support from Nigerians in London’ as a major factor that led to the team’s victory over Ghana in their first match at the 2025 Unity Cup, and it was something they all cherished.
Sports247 reports that the Eagles pulled the chestnut out of the fire on Wednesday to snatch a 2-1 win over Ghana’s Black Stars at Brentford’s GTech Community Stadium in West London, as they surged into the final of the four-nation invitational competition.

That victory, during which the first goal came off the boot of Glasgow Rangers of Scotland striker Cyriel Kolawole Dessers and Nigeria featured six home-based players, set the Eagles up for Saturday’s final at the same venue against The Reggae Boyz of Jamaica.
The Jamaicans defeated their Caribbean neighbours, Trinidad & Tobago, 3-2 in the first semi-final on Tuesday, after which their British coach, Steve McClaren, thanked a massive turnout of their compatriots at the stadium for backing the team with huge chants of support in the stands.
McClaren further said he would be banking on the same haul of support to see his side through to clinch the trophy on Saturday, but Ilechukwu has now countered by hinting that the Super Eagles will equally have a huge support base behind them, considering what they had going in their favour against Ghana.
The former coach of once-vibrant Mountain of Fire & Miracles (MFM) FC of Lagos, who also won the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) with Rangers International of Enugu in 2024, took to social media to celebrate the Eagles’ victory and reveal the euphoria that engulfed everyone in the Nigerian camp.
In a post on his X account @fidelisILE, accompanied by an uploaded video of the Eagles’ happy moment on the pitch right after the final whistle, the gaffer fondly called ‘Kamara’ was seen leading the fanfare with his repeated demonstration of Portugal legend Cristiano Ronaldo’s iconic goal celebration style.
Ilechukwu backed his post with a declaration that read: “I couldn’t hide the excitement in London after the victory over Ghana. Great atmosphere and incredible support from Nigerians in London.”
The Super Eagles will now hope to get more supporters to root behind them in the stadium during Saturday’s final in order to silence the vociferous chants that the opposing fans of Jamaica are sure to unleash at the home ground of the English Premier League club, Brentford.
