UNITY CUP 2025: Czech Republic-based Stopper Igoh Ogbu Thanks God For Super Eagles’ Debut

Slavia Prague of Czech Republic defender, Igoh Ogbu is still relishing the impact of his debut with the Super Eagles and declared that he is grateful to God for making it possible, Sports247 reports.

Speaking against the backdrop of 90 minutes non-stop action in Wednesday’s 2-1 victory against Ghana, the former Gombe United FC centre back said it was a dream come true for him and he is looking forward to more years ahead in the green-and-white.

Incidentally, Igoh Ogbu, who previously played in Norway with Rosenborg, Levanger, Sogndal and Lillestrom, had been a key member of the Flying Eagles at the 2019 African U20 Cup of Nations and FIFA U20 World Cup of the same year, but stepping up to the senior national team did not come for him in a straightforward swoop.

Nonetheless, after racking up above average marks on his debut and helping Nigeria beat their eternal rivals in the first semi-final of this year’s Unity Cup in London, Ogbu is eager to get more playing time under his boots with the Super Eagles.

“It’s an amazing feeling to play for your motherland. That’s the pride of every young person or kid who plays football.

“To be able to represent Nigeria is the best feeling ever, and I’m grateful to God for it,” said the 25-year-old Ogbu, who has played a total of 23 games this season for Slavia Prague.

Ogbu will, however, aim for more before the season wraps up, as he is yet to reach the same highpoint of the past campaign, in which he played a total of 41 games and won the Czech Cup with Slavia Prague.
