UNITECOL 2025: LASU’s Isiaka Seyon Reveals Secret Behind Clean Sheets, Stopping Penalty Kicks

A Human Kinetics diploma student at Lagos State University, Isiaka Seyon has revealed the secret behind his ability to keep several clean sheets and stop penalty kicks during his school’s conquest of this year’s UNITECOL Cup football competition for higher institutions.

Sports247 reports that Isiaka Seyon, who admitted he might dump school for a football career in Europe if an offer comes his way, was voted man of the match after helping his team beat Yaba College of Technology 1-0 in a pulsating final of the competition organised by 54Footballx.

The youngster said afterwards that his agility in goal and ability to stop opponents from scoring against him came through extra hours of training and the sheer determination with which he motivates himself before stepping out for any match.

Seyon added, “It was a nice outing for Lagos State University, and I’m very proud of myself. I trained very well for this tournament … day, night, inside the rain, inside the sun. Every time, all of us, we trained very hard.”

The smooth-talking shot-stopper continued by expressing gratitude with how his predictions came to pass and that the lads from LASU were able to return with the trophy to their campus at Ojo area of Lagos State.

He declared, “I’m glad that I told my teammates we’ll take the trophy back to Ojo, because it’s our own and we worked for it.

The match was very tough, but I was able to keep my promise to my teammates that I would not concede any goal throughout this tournament. From the first match till the final, I kept clean sheets throughout.”

He concluded by revealing how self-motivation and determination helped him keep all the promises he made to his colleagues, but admitted he would readily leave them behind if he gets an offer to play football as a professional in Europe.

“I did not want anybody to score against me. Even in the semi-final, I saved a penalty. It was mostly because I trained for penalties during practice. I told my teammates that I would save any penalty an opponent gets against us, and I’m happy that I proved it.

“I’m also happy that I proved all my enemies and my opponents wrong. It has given me more confidence as a goalkeeper. I’m currently a diploma student, which is for two years, but if I get an offer from Europe, I will stop and go,” Seyon confessed
