Delta State–based triple jumper Timothy Ugherakpoteni is steadily establishing himself as one of Nigeria’s most promising young field athletes, with a series of encouraging performances pointing to a bright future in the event.
The young jumper first gained national attention during the trials for the African U18/U20 Championships Abeokuta 2025, where he produced an impressive performance to claim the U18 triple jump title in Ogun State.

That victory marked a breakthrough moment for Ugherakpoteni, announcing him as a rising talent within Nigeria’s growing pool of field event athletes.
His strong showing at the trials earned him a place on Team Nigeria for the continental championships in Abeokuta, where he made his first major international appearance.
Competing against some of the best young jumpers across Africa, the Delta-based athlete produced a solid mark of 14.86 metres, finishing fourth overall. Although he narrowly missed the podium, the performance highlighted his composure and potential on the continental stage.
Ugherakpoteni continued his development shortly afterwards at the African Youth Games in Angola, where he delivered an even stronger performance. With a leap of 15.22 metres, the Nigerian secured his first major international medal, further confirming his steady progress and growing confidence in the triple jump.
The 2026 season has already brought further success for the young athlete. Ugherakpoteni has captured two championship titles so far this year and recently recorded another impressive jump of 15.11 metres, a mark that signals continued improvement as he refines his technique and competitive consistency.
With the World Athletics U20 Championships on the horizon, Ugherakpoteni is now focused on achieving the qualifying standard and continuing his rise through the international junior ranks. His development is being guided by experienced jumps coach Owivri Edirin, widely respected for his expertise in developing field event athletes.
As his distances continue to improve and his experience grows, Timothy Ugherakpoteni appears well positioned to become one of the next Nigerian jumpers to make an impact on the global stage.
