Ugbade Advocates One Month Build-up For Eaglets

Nigeria’s cadet national team, Golden Eaglets’ assistant coach, Nduka Ugbade has advocated at least a month of adequate screening and proper training for the squad before next year’s Africa U-17 Cup of Nations.

Ugbade, who captained Nigeria’s pioneer cadet team to win the maiden FIFA U-16 World Cup at China ’84, told sports247.ng that the Eaglets will need about a month of trials and screening before heading out to the U17 AFCON in Tanzania next year.

Ugbade also revealed that players who failed to make the team for the zonal qualifiers in Niger Republic will now have another chance to prove themselves.

The former Super Eagles defender added: “We still need to embark upon another round of open screening, to see if we can spot other new talents.

“We still want to see if we van accommodate some of the players who did not go with us to Niamey for the zonal qualifiers.

“That means we still have a lot of work to do. The way we see, we will need at least one month to try out new ideas and build the team before we can say we are ready for Tanzania 2019.”
