Uganda’s Magala Glad To Win IBB Golf In Abuja

Ugandan female golfer, Evah Magala is relishing her victory at the 21st IBB Ladies Golf Championship in Abuja, as she says it makes up for her missing out last year.

Sports247.ng reports that, after emerging top of the the three-day gross competition at IBB International Golf & Country Club on Sunday, Magala admitted she was thrilled with her feat ahead of 160 amateur golfers.

The competitors stormed the venue from seven countries, with Sweden, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Botswana, Ghana and hosts Nigeria on the cards, from which 45 made the cut on Sunday after two days of play.

Magala played a gross of 244 over three days to emerge top, followed by Nigeria’s Rachael Danjuma, who played a gross of 248, as Amina Wilfred finished third with a score of 250.

In the best net category for ladies with handicap 0 to 28, Sheila Ebunilo playing off handicap 22 emerged champion, after she played a gross of 289 and returned a net of 223 over three days.

She was followed by Fatima Ahmadu, with gross of 290 and returned a net of 224, while Lizzy Asomugha finished third in the category.
At the end of it all, Magala said: “I tried the first time last year and was top of the leaderboard for two days consecutively, but unfortunately I lost to Tanzania’s Angel Eaton in the final.

“This time around I decided to start slowly and see how I finish. I really enjoyed my finishing. It was good.
“The tour this time around was about maturity, as I waited for my opponents and capitalised on their mistakes.”
