Julian Schuster’s SC Freiburg start their European adventure at home to Swiss champions Basel.
Freiburg won back-to-back games in the Bundesliga following two defeats at the start of the season. Schuster picks a strong side for their first of eight games in the league phase of the Europa League.

As for the visitors, former Bayern winger Xherdan Shaqiri already has ten direct goal involvements in as many matches. A Bundesliga winner with Bremen and Stuttgart, Ludovic Magnin replaced Fabio Celestini as Basel’s coach this summer
Patrick Osterhage opens the goal count in the 31st minute to push for a lead before Vincenzo Grifo provided the assist for the second goal scored by Maximilian Eggestein in the 57th minute. Noah Atubolu made three saves before Leo Leroy provided the assist for the lone goal scored by Philip Otele in the 84th minutes for FC Basel to make it 2-1.
