Arne Slot, head coach of Liverpool FC, has admitted that the injury to Victor Osimhen played a role in his side’s advantage during their clash against Galatasaray SK.
Speaking in his post-match press conference, Slot acknowledged Osimhen’s immense quality and influence, describing the Nigerian striker as a key figure in Galatasaray’s attacking setup.
“Osimhen is an incredible player for them… Yeah, [the injury] worked for us, but when you look at the first 10 minutes and how the team played with him, I thought he would play the full 90 because the rest of the team plays so well off him.”
Osimhen, widely regarded as one of Europe’s most dangerous forwards, was forced off early due to injury after an impressive start to the match.
His presence in the opening minutes caused visible problems for Liverpool’s defense, reinforcing his importance to the Turkish side.
Despite admitting the situation ultimately favored his team, Slot expressed sympathy for the striker, emphasizing that injuries are never a positive aspect of the game.
“It’s not nice to see any player get injured, but he’s been very influential on Galatasaray’s performance.”
Osimhen’s absence appeared to disrupt Galatasaray’s attacking rhythm, as the team struggled to replicate the same intensity and cohesion after his departure.
His ability to hold up play, stretch defenses, and create opportunities has been central to their recent performances.
The development now raises concerns for Galatasaray ahead of upcoming fixtures, with fans and coaching staff awaiting further updates on the severity of the injury.
For Liverpool, however, the match served as a reminder of Osimhen’s threat — and how pivotal he remains whenever he is on the pitch.
