U20 World Cup: Senegal’s Amadou Sagna Breaks Monday Odiaka’s 34-Year-Old Record

Senegal striker, Amadou Sagna broke Monday Odiaka’s record for the fastest goal scored in the history of the U20 World Cup in their 3-0 win against Tahiti on Thursday.

Sagna also went on to bag the first hat-trick of this year’s competition as he scored again in the 29th and 50th minutes.

Senegal is now top of Group A with three points, while Columbia is second also with three points after a 2-0 victory over hosts, Poland.

Sagna opened the scoring after only 9.6 seconds, breaking the record that former Nigeria U20 international, Odiaka held for 34 years. Odiaka scored after 14 seconds as Nigeria beat Canada 2-0 at the 1985 U20 World Cup.

Odiaka also scored three goals overall in the competition, as the Flying Eagles finished third in the tournament held in the old Soviet Union.

Nigeria will face Qatar in their opening game in Tychy, set to begin on Friday, May 24 at 5 pm, Nigerian time.
